Motzblock, an Earth Retainer Block, Patent No. 5,325,643
About Us
The Motzblock was invented by Stan Motz and Bill Mitchell in the early 1990’s. At the time, Motz was a construction superintendent working with Mitchell on a project located in downtown San Antonio.
Motz had encountered a difficult condition for the installation of traditional concrete retainer blocks, where the foundation was set 15 feet below ground level. The heavy concrete blocks were hard to handle and posed a hazard to workers, so Motz got with Mitchell and they decided to come up with an alternative.
The result was the Motzblock, a lightweight retainer block panel made of high density polyethylene. The Motzblock’s unique design is tested to have comparable strength to the much heavier concrete blocks. This effectively solved the problem for Motz and Mitchell on their downtown project and has been a solution for them, and many other builders, contractors, architects and engineers since that time.
Motzblocks are manufactured in Texas and are made from 100% pre-consumer recycled plastic.
