Motzblock, an Earth Retainer Block, Patent No. 5,325,643

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Motzblock is a High Density Polyethylene Earth Retainer Block that is lightweight and durable.

Prevent Soil Migration
A soil retainer block is used to prevent expansive soil migration under a suspended building foundation.

Cost
Motzblocks are comparable in cost to traditional concrete retainer blocks. When you take into account the ease of installation, the savings can be substantial.

Lightweight
A construction worker can easily carry up to 75 linear feet of Motzblocks. The same quantity of concrete blocks would weigh in excess of 2,800 lbs, which would make the installation much more difficult and puts the installer more at risk for potential lifting injuries. The photo, above right, shows the inventors of the Motzblock holding 88 lineal feet of retainer blocks. The equivalent in concrete retainers would weigh in excess of 3,000 lbs.

Ease of Installation
Since Motzblocks are easy to stack and move, you won't need to employ heavy equipment to transport them around the job site. If pipes or other obstructions are in the way of a retainer block installation, Motzblocks can be cut with a utility knife to fit around the obstruction. Try that with a concrete block.

Shipping and Handling Advantages
Due to the significant weight difference between concrete blocks and the Motzblcok, shipping and handling costs are greatly reduced. Also, once the product is delivered to the job site, on-site materials handling and installation costs make them the clear choice for retainer block applications.

LEED
Motzblock are made of pre-consumer (post-industrial) recycled materials, and can contribute to your project's LEED certification.
